On a Mission to Do the Dishes
Saying we are “on a mission” sounds so exciting and adventurous. When I think of being on a mission, I think of military, special forces, and other similarly cool people. I don’t often put myself in that category. I mean I’m constantly “on a mission” to do something, but it’s not very exciting or adventurous. It’s definitely not glamorous, and I’m definitely not earning any medals for cleaning cheerios off the floor. I wish. I’m in a stage of life that stills feels new and makes me feel unsure of what I’m doing a lot of the time – even though I’ve been a mom for over 6 years now.…

Redeeming Identities
Women around the world face all sorts of hardships that I don’t think we can really wrap our heads around here in the US. Up until about three years ago I was completely naive to what some women around the world are facing. And if I’m being honest, maybe I was aware, but I just didn’t really want to see because I thought there was nothing really meaningful I could do to help. Then I found Trades of Hope. Trades of Hope not only awakened me to a whole new world of suffering at the hands of poverty but also to a solution – a tangible way to make changes…

Mom Bod
Ya’ll, three C-sections is no joke. It sure did a number on my 6-pack. (Ok, well I didn’t really have a 6-pack before kids either, but you get the point.) I bounced back from a 50lb weight gain with my oldest (E) pretty quickly. With my second (A), I gained a little less, but I also hung on to a few more afterwards. Still, I felt pretty confident that the weight (50 lbs again) would come off easily the third time around with little effort. Who was I kidding?!?! Those little fat cells are clinging on for dear life. It’s been about 9 months, and I’m trying to find ways…

This Room
Decorating nurseries is always fun. When we were expecting our first daughter we went all out as first time parents usually do. Everything was color-coordinated. She had a big beautiful custom-made tree decal on her wall. Her dresser and shelves had cute little knickknacks. We bought a fancy convertible crib. Then, when our second daughter was born we put her in a crib that was given to us used (because my oldest daughter was now using her convertible bed as a toddler bed.) Her “room” also doubled as a play room and even a guest room because of the futon that was in there. Poor kiddo. We moved to a…

Thrive
If this picture isn’t the essence of what it means to thrive I don’t know what is. Years ago, this bougainvillea was planted in my parent’s back yard as a tiny little plant. Today, it has taken over almost the whole back wall of their yard. It is thriving to say the least. And it’s so beautiful. My sister (pictured here) was gathering some blossoms to use in a flower arrangement. When I envision thriving, this is pretty much what I think of. Some synonyms for thrive are “flourish,” “prosper,” “bloom,” “blossom,” “advance,” and “succeed.” Part of the definition of thrive is to “grow or develop well or vigorously.” Boy,…

Awaken
Awaken. There are so many things I could write about this word. I love it so much! First let’s take a look at the dictionary.com definition of this word: rouse from sleep; cause to stop sleeping make someone aware of something for the first time The first definition is more literal, and the second is more figurative. I love both meanings, and both of them apply to how I want to greet each new day. I am a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom. I have three little girls, ages 6, 4, and 9 mo. My 9mo old still doesn’t sleep through the night without waking to be nursed, and I teach ESL online…

Inhale
This is my “word” for 2018. I went back and forth and considered a few others, but this was the one I kept coming back to. There were just so many ways I could think of that this word would apply to things I wanted accomplish and the way I wanted to live. In Genesis, we read about the unique and personal creation of man. God didn’t just speak Adam into existence like the rest of creation; “He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7). In order for Adam to have life he had to inhale the breath of life from God Himself!…
